Clover to partner with The Wedding Expo® for the 2013 Cake Challenge and give bakers a chance to showcase their talent and the versatility of Clover dairy products
Whether the trend has been inspired by TV shows like Cake Boss, Next Great Baker or South Africa’s own Charly’s Cake Angels, there’s no denying that these days, brides-to-be want wedding cakes that are anything but ordinary. And meeting the challenge head-on, today’s wedding cake makers have elevated baking to an art form that defies the boundaries of tradition, construction and flavour.
This is why Clover is proud to be a sponsor of The Wedding Expo® Cake Challenge. The first competition was launched at the April 2012 expo and surprised and delighted judges with the creativity and craft that went into each entry.
The next competition will take place at The Wedding Expo®, 6-7 April 2013 and Clover is eager to see what innovative creations will be showcased at South Africa’s premiere bridal expo.
“An event like this gives bakers and Clover fans alike the opportunity to experience first-hand the quality and versatility of Clover dairy products,” says Assistant Brand Manager, Devashni Ganess.
At The Wedding Expo® 2013, cake makers will be invited to interpret a set theme for the competition. The overriding requirement will be for bakers to innovate and break with tradition. They will need to showcase their talent in such a way as to truly wow the judges, who will comprise several highly-respected representatives in the baking, culinary and media worlds – and of course, Devashni Ganess from Clover.
The 2013 competition won’t just be about appearances – cakes will have to taste as good as they look and all good bakers know that top baking starts with quality ingredients.
“Clover milk is sourced from approximately 270 dairies that each go through a stringent selection process before they become a supplier. Our milk then goes through a series of approximately 55 rigorous quality tests and is kept at a temperature of below 4 °C to ensure freshness.”

Entrants in the 2013 The Wedding Expo® Cake Challenge will be required to submit a dummy cake for display purposes and a piece of real cake with a comprehensive description of the filling, type of cake and their inspiration. Judging categories will comprise: Overall Winner; Winner of the Best Taste; Winner of the Best Decorated Cake; and Public Choice Award.
